According to Justice Kume, the governorship election was not conducted in accordance with the Nigerian Electoral Act.

In his petition, Mr Oyetola, the immediate past governor of the state, claimed that the election was characterized by over-voting in 749 polling units.

He also argued that Mr Adeleke forged the academic credentials he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest for the election.

The panel determined that there was excessive voting in the governorship race. According to the report, Mr. Oyetola received 314, 921 votes in the election after the excessive votes were subtracted.
As a result, the panel ruled that Mr. Oyetola be reinstated as governor of Osun State.

With a total of 403,371 votes, Mr. Adeleke was declared the victor. In 17 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs), he won.

With 375,027 votes, Mr. Oyetola of the APC prevailed in the remaining 13 LGAs.

The governorship election featured fifteen contestants, but Mr. Adeleke and Mr. Oyetola engaged in a fierce rivalry.
