The upcoming general election will not be derailed by the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, which has pledged to do everything within its power to help the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC conduct free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections.

The apex bank stated that it would go above and beyond to make the money INEC would require to pay for some particular services available.

The pledge was made on Tuesday in Abuja when the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, hosted Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the INEC.

Yakubu had made an urgent trip to the apex bank to ask for modifications to the Naira Redesign policy, specifically with regard to the restrictions on cash withdrawals.

In addition to the fact that some service providers must be paid in cash, he claimed that the commission may need to utilize cash if an emergency arises on election day, according to experience.
