The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, officials as well as other ad hoc employees were attacked, according to the Anambra State Police Command.

According to a news release by Anambra State Police Command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, the gunmen attacked while the INEC personnel was receiving training.

Part of the statement adds, “The armed individuals disrupted the INEC employees, with some corps members, university freshmen, and some MDA officials on the training session for Adhoc staff for the upcoming 2023 General Elections.

“No life was lost, as [the] joint security team successfully rescued and prevented the armed men from hurting the electoral officials on an assignment at Ukpor High School, Nnewi South LGA.

“Joint security patrols have been intensified in the area and efforts are still ongoing to track down the criminal elements.”

Ikenga reassured the populace that the policing technique used by Echeng Echeng, the commissioner of police for the Anambra State, is effective and dynamic, capable of responding to any emergency or security problem, and will guarantee that the state’s elections in 2023 will go off without a hitch.
