Doyin Okupe, the Labour Party Campaign Council’s Director-General, has resigned from his position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He informed Peter Obi, the LP presidential candidate, of the news in a letter on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Okupe shared the letter on his official Twitter account and stated, “It’s time to retire. But until God grants us victory in the name of Jesus, I will stand with PO, the Obidients, and the Presidential Campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Okupe resigned after being found guilty of violating the Money Laundering Act by an Abuja-based Federal High Court on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The leader of the Labour Party, who had formerly belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was subsequently given a two and a half year prison term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the presiding judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, gave Okupe an option of N500,000 fine on each of the 26 count charges, amounting to N13m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
