The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has ruled Gboyega Oyetola the winner of the election, invalidating the election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tribunal invalidated the election outcome announced by the electoral commission (INEC) on Friday in Osogbo, giving Mr. Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party the victory on June 16, 2022. (PDP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The panel instructed INEC to revoke the certificates of return that had been given to Mr. Adeleke and Kola Adewusi, his deputy, both of whom had taken the oath of office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The All Progressives Congress’ Mr. Oyetola should be given the certificate of return, according to the panel led by Justice Terste Kume (APC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Justice Kume, Nigeria’s electoral laws were not followed when the governorship election was held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Justice Kume, the governorship election was not conducted in accordance with the Nigerian Electoral Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his petition, Mr Oyetola, the immediate past governor of the state, claimed that the election was characterized by over-voting in 749 polling units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also argued that Mr Adeleke forged the academic credentials he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest for the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The panel determined that there was excessive voting in the governorship race. According to the report, Mr. Oyetola received 314, 921 votes in the election after the excessive votes were subtracted.
As a result, the panel ruled that Mr. Oyetola be reinstated as governor of Osun State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With a total of 403,371 votes, Mr. Adeleke was declared the victor. In 17 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs), he won.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With 375,027 votes, Mr. Oyetola of the APC prevailed in the remaining 13 LGAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
