On Wednesday, there was unrest in Abuja as more than 300 angry youths gathered to demonstrate against the Supreme Court’s exparte decision temporarily blocking the Federal Government’s plan to outlaw the use of old Naira notes beginning on February 10, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The demonstrators, who gathered at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s offices and the Federal Attorney General’s office, gave the CBN a vote of confidence and urged them not to back down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The protesters, who were carrying placards that read, “Justice Ariwoola, resist plot to use our Supreme Court undermine democracy,” claimed that Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, was acting in the best interests of the G5, the All Progressives Congress, and Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They pleaded with President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired) to issue an executive order prohibiting the use of the outdated notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Obed Agu, the coordinator of the Civil Society Central Body and the demonstrators’ leader, urged Nigerians to refuse the old Naira notes for their own benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
