The Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s ruling invalidating the declaration of Ademola Adeleke as the victor of the governorship election on July 16 has been appealed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the majority decision, which was read by the tribunal’s chairperson Tertsea Kume, INEC was instructed to give former governor Gboyega Oyetola the certificate of return that had been issued to Mr. Adeleke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It claimed that the election had not been conducted in accordance with the 2022 Electoral Act based on the facts presented to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the electoral body claimed in a notice of appeal issued by its attorney, Paul Ananaba, that the ruling contained a “mistake in law.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our reporter was able to secure a copy of the certified true copy of the notice of appeal, which was dated 8 February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
INEC requests that the petition be dismissed for “lack of competence and jurisdiction” and that the appeal court reverse the entirety of the tribunal’s ruling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
